John S. Buford

John Buford has never confined himself to one niche of business litigation. It’s a choice that has not only broadened his professional experience and allowed him to adapt his skills to clients’ varied and ever-changing needs, but also redefined his “comfort zone” to one ruled by flexibility, complexity, and technology.

He litigates disputes between businesses as well as internal disputes among business owners, officers, and directors in matters spanning the spectrum of business issues, including commercial and contract disputes, corporate and LLC governance, trademarks, trade secrets and other intellectual property, noncompete and nonsolicitation, construction, and land use.

“I rarely get to meet people under happy circumstances,” says John. “But whether a client is a plaintiff or defendant, the best litigation strategy comes through proper planning and deft execution—recognizing and refining the story that is most persuasive, whether to a judge, a jury, opposing counsel, or anyone else in position to help the client meet its goal. I do not pretend I’m on television and stomp my feet and shout to put on a good show; I believe that good people can disagree without being disagreeable. My mission is to conduct myself in a manner that preserves our clients’ interests and integrity and obtains the best business result possible in a given dispute, using the full range of procedures and tactics in litigation, arbitration, and mediation.”
